One Wellby Member's Mission to Bring Financial Support to Galveston Families

July 17, 2026

In Galveston, community support often starts with someone willing to listen, connect people to resources, and help families take the next step forward.

Whether she is helping a family navigate housing insecurity, connecting someone to financial resources, or simply listening during a difficult moment, Amber takes pride in serving and supporting the Galveston community.

“I love Galveston. I love the community. I love the people,” Amber said. “It’s a small community with big hearts and big hands.”

Like many communities, Galveston is home to families facing financial hardship, housing insecurity, and unexpected life challenges. For many people, finding stability can feel overwhelming without the right support system in place.

That is the reality Amber works to help change every day through her role at St. Vincent’s House and as co-chair of the Gulf Coast Homeless Coalition. Some families need help finding stable housing. Others are working to build better financial habits, access community resources, or move toward long-term self-sufficiency.

For Amber, helping people overcome those barriers starts with a people-first approach rooted in compassion and listening.

“Caring for the community starts with listening,” Amber said. “When I take the time to understand my clients’ needs and what they’re going through, it helps them feel safe enough to open up about their struggles.”

For many of the families Amber works with, overcoming challenges requires more than emotional support alone. It takes access to financial education, community programs, and trusted banking resources that can help them move forward with confidence.

That is why relationships with community-focused financial institutions like Wellby Financial have become an important part of the work she does throughout Galveston.

Amber initially learned about Wellby Financial while exploring financial resources for the families she serves.

“As case managers, we were looking for programs to help our clients be more self-sufficient,” she recalled.

For Amber, credibility and reliability come from personal experience. It's one way she builds trust with the families and individuals who rely on her guidance.

“Before I recommend a resource, I want to understand it myself,” Amber said. “That way, I know what the experience is like and can better help my clients navigate the process."

That firsthand approach led Amber to explore Wellby Financial for herself. While searching for a Galveston Credit Union that could benefit her clients, Wellby stood out because the experience felt personal and because the Galveston team was already active in the community.

After experiencing the welcoming environment at Wellby and learning about the financial tools available, Amber decided to become a Wellby member. She visited the Galveston branch to open a Wellby Secure Spending checking account and a Savings Plus account. The experience helped her better understand the resources available to members and the families she supports.

“From the first time I visited Wellby Financial, I felt like they truly cared about me as a person,” Amber said. “They took the time to talk with me, answer my questions, and get to know me. That kind of personal experience is why I would recommend Wellby to others.”

She also values the commitment of the Galveston branch team and the relationships they continue to build within the community.

“Wellby is really involved in the Galveston community alongside us,” Amber continued. “They want to help support our community and the needs of our clients, as well as the needs of the St. Vincent’s employees.”

Over time, Amber developed a strong relationship with the Galveston Wellby branch team through financial literacy workshops and community outreach efforts focused on financial wellness in Galveston. Held at St. Vincent’s House, the workshops cover topics such as budgeting, debt management, understanding credit, saving, and investing. These practical conversations help individuals and families build confidence as they work toward long-term financial stability.

“The Wellby Galveston branch hosted a financial literacy workshop with us to share resources that could benefit both our team and the clients we serve,” Amber said. “They continue to show up for our community, and they’re already scheduled to come back for another session.”

For Amber, those workshops represent something bigger than financial information. They represent access, support, and the opportunity for people to take the next step toward stability.

Amber knows firsthand how much a support system can help someone through difficult times.

“I care about helping others build financial stability because I know what it feels like to struggle,” Amber said. “When you feel like you have nothing, it can be hard to see a way forward.”

That lived experience continues to shape the way she serves her community today.

“I try to be the person that somebody needs now that I needed back then,” Amber said. “That’s what drives me to serve this community and help people move forward in any way I can.”

That may mean learning how to budget, opening a checking or savings account, improving spending habits, or simply understanding how to get started.

"When I watch families go from struggling to self-sustaining, it makes me feel joyful,” Amber said.

For Amber, community banking in Galveston is not just about opening an account. It is about relationships, trust, and having people who genuinely care about helping others prosper financially. That kind of support becomes especially meaningful when families begin making progress toward self-sufficiency.
